WhatsApp, the most widely used Instant Messaging Application on the planet is all set for the release of its Payments services in India. The feature was teased not so long ago. What is UPI ?

UPI stands for Unified Payments Interface. For transferring money to a bank account, we need the Full name, Bank Name, Bank IFSC code and such details. Also transferring money would take more than 7 days. But with UPI, there is no need of such information to send money to someone’s bank account. Instead a unique UPI ID is assigned to each user  which is linked to their bank account. So for sending money, we just need to have the users UPI ID which looks almost like a normal email id.

UPI transactions are instant. Meaning the payment will be sent immediately and the other person will also receive the money in his/her bank account in a few seconds. This has revolutionized the whole banking sector. People can easily and safely send and receive money without any delay from their fingertips.

UPI payments are regulated by RBI (Reserve Bank of India) through its payments subsidiary NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India). This means that the payments made through UPI is Safe and Secure.

What is WhatsApp Payments?

UPI is implemented by lots and lots of applications from banking apps to digital wallet apps like Paytm, Phonepe etc. All these applications use the UPI service to make payments from their platforms. All the transactions are going processed by the NPCI.
