How to Delete Unwanted Apps From Android Without Rooting, This is the topic that we are going to see today. For those who have a rooted phone, it is very easy to uninstall applications and bloatwares. They just need to install any Root app uninstaller application.

If you purchase phones from an Online Website or a carrier, you can often see their applications and certain other applications that comes pre installed with the phone. But if you are not going to use any of those applications, what is the point in keeping them.

But for those who haven’t rooted their phones, How can we remove bloatwares? Well there is a way to uninstall unwanted applications and bloatwares from your phone. The method is a bit complex when compared, but I’ll try to describe the whole process in a very simple way.

Preinstalled applications or Bloatware as we normally use to say are applications or games that are preinstalled on the phone by the carrier or the OEM itself. These applications are not used and end up using resources in the background.

If your phone is rooted, it is very easy to remove system applications and other bloatwares. But what if your phone is not rooted? Can We Delete Unwanted Apps From Android Without Rooting? The answer is Yes!

The method that we are going to discuss today is quite simple and everybody can do it.

A word of Caution:

This tutorial will help you remove system applications and other unwanted applications( bloatwares) that comes preinstalled on your phone. You should be careful not to uninstall any required applications or services from your phone.

If you delete some important system files, this might cause Android to crash and cause serious instabilities. There are lots of very important packages on your phone that is necessary for Android to work properly. Make sure you know exactly which apps you don’t need and is safe to uninstall.

There are two files that needs to be downloaded. One is that ADB  (Android Debug Bridge) Tools which is a command line based tool that will help us communicate with the android device. ADB facilitates a variety of device actions, such as installing and debugging apps, and it provides access to a Unix shell that you can use to run a variety of commands on a device.

For the ADB tools to work properly, we need to make sure the ADB drivers are installed correctly.

Step by Step Method to Delete Unwanted Apps From Android

The following method is tested on Lenovo, Coolpad  and Huawei devices and  will work with almost all the Android Smartphones.

Delete Unwanted Apps From Android – Overview:

  1. Download the required files.
  2. Install the ADB Drivers and Tools.
  3. Open CMD.
  4. Connect your phone.
  5. Enable USB Debugging option on your phone.
  6. Enter the commands.
  7. Done!

Pre Requisites  – How to enable USB Debugging?

You need to enable USB debugging option on the phone for the method to work. This is how you enable USB debugging option on your Android Phone. This might seem  a little nerdy, but is very simple.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Then About Phone.
  3. Find Build Number option and Click on it repeatedly for 7 times.
  4. This will enable Developer Options on your phone.
  5. Go back to Settings.
  6. Click on Developer Options .
  7. Enable it. Scroll Down and find Enable USB Debugging toggle.
  8. Enable USB Debugging.

Delete Unwanted Apps From Android without Root – Steps

Step 1: Download the necessary files to your computer from the above links. There are two files as mentioned earlier. One is the ADB Drivers and the other file is the ADB Tool.

Step 2: Install the ADB drivers on your computer first. It is advised to restart the device after installing the drivers. Once that is done, Install the ADB Tools. Make sure you check the Create Shortcut option while installing for easier access to the tool.

Step 3 : Open the ADB tools command window by double clicking the ADB Tools shortcut. Or press Win + R to open Run and enter CMD to open Command Prompt. Go to the ADB Tools directory by copying the folder location.

cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot

Step 4: Connect your phone to the computer. Go to Settings on your phone and enable USB Debugging option.

 

Step 5: Enter the following command in CMD window to check if the connection to phone is OK. Type the below command to see the List of attached devices.

adb devices

Step 6: If the drivers are installed properly, you will be able to see the device. Next up we have to enter the command to start  shell. When you hit enter you’ll see something like you seen in the image below ([email protected]:/ $).

Step 7:  If you want to delete unwanted system applications or bloatware from the phone, first find out the package name of the application by entering the following command. If you already know the package name of the app,you can skip the step.

pm list packages | grep '<search term>'

Replace the <search term> with the app name. For example, If i need to see all the application that Google has pre installed on my phone like Google Play Music, Google Play Movies, etc (see image below) , I can type :

pm list packages | grep 'google'

This will return application containing the word google in their package name.

Step 8: Once you have got the package name of the application that you want to uninstall, just enter the command to uninstall the preinstalled application without rooting your phone.

pm uninstall -k --user 0 <packagename>

Replace <packagename> with the package name (com.xxx..) of the application and Hit Enter. For example, I want to delete the Google Play Music application which is preinstalled on my phone. so i first search for music and then i found the package name of the Google Play Music app (com.google.android.music). So i typed the following line to delete the app (see image below) .

pm uninstall - k --user 0 com.google.android.music

When i hit Enter, it showed Success. This means that the application is uninstalled from the phone.

That’s it you have successfully deleted a system app/ unwanted app from your phone without having to root your device. Give yourself a pat!

My Phone is Not Working Properly After wards?

If you removed some important application from your phone, it might cause instability to the whole android OS. In such cases the one thing you can do is to Factory Reset the phone.

If you are able to navigate the phone, try to make backup of your contacts and other important stuffs before resetting the phone. If the phone is not at all responding or errors keeping on popping up, just google How to hard reset your phone.
